REFRESH AND RENEW: How to update your home without remodelling
My main floor needed a fresh new brighter feel. As a recent widow I needed to change the energy and overall look. I knew I had to be budget conscious and work with existing fixed elements. I also purchased some new furnishings and added stylish finishing touches. With my expert tips and advice you will learn how to update your home without remodeling.

Painting walls is the most inexpensive change a homeowner can make: creates a big impact and your space will look brand new. Of course the selection of colours depends on what mood you're trying to create in your space.
All shades of white have been on trend for several years now. I used- BM OC 65 Chantilly Lace on the Cabinetry throughout the main floor and BM OC 117 Simply White on the walls throughout the main floor creating a lighter fresher feel.

Another inexpensive big impact idea is respraying and/or re-staining your cabinets; it won't break the bank like a complete gut job. Give dated, damaged or dull cabinets a current and fresh look.
In the kitchen I kept the bronze hardware and beige/cream backsplash that are simple in style. Brown, beige and cream is trending in 2024, this saved me money and time by using these existing finishes.
My powder room was also re-painted with a beautiful teal: BM 692 Jack Pine.. I also chose a stunning nature inspired wallpaper that has teal, gray, gold and off-white in it. It was the jumping point for vanity colour and other finishing touches.

Establish a colour palette. The neutrals I carried throughout the main floor are off white, cream, beige and browns; accented with teal, gold and caramel/rusty tones.
Designer Tipoff: Inspiration for colours can come from fabric, art pieces, a rug, a photo of a space you love. I was inspired by my dining room drapery for my accent colours.

I sourced out new fabric that tied in with the teal and caramel/gold tones found in the drapery fabric. I used the fabric below for the kitchen valance and family room drapery. I sourced out ready-made drapery for my entrance and replaced my damaged valance in the powder room.
Designer Tipoff: Your fabric should have some or all the colours in it that you will be using throughout your space. These colours can be used on walls, furniture, pillows, art work, rugs etc.
Tip #5: How to update your home without remodeling: Reuse and Reinvent Existing Pieces
I reused my dining room table that had an espresso stain finish. I had it restrained in a natural finish that lightened the look of the table.

The family room upholstery, ottoman and side tables, accessories for bookcases and drapery(repeated fabric used over kitchen sink) were new purchases. In the kitchen the bar stools and dining chairs were also purchased. Powder room new wall sconce and plumbing fixture. And finally a new rug for the living room.
Some Cuteness!!! His favorite spot!!! My baby Cody, our 3 year old Australian Labradoodle. 🐶♥️ Old sectional was looking old and overused and needed to be changed.
Finally my entrance cabinet was replaced with a stunning espresso console table and boho nature inspired wallpaper. The gold in the wallpaper is subtle but makes a statement. Completing the look is on trend accessories. LOVE IT!!!!!
